Topping it or Not?

There's always the most fearsome arguments about circumcision. Leaving aside any religious issues (if you know what a mohel is, it's not really going to be voluntary) there is on the one side the fafct that it does protect against certain sexually transmitted disease and cancers.

Good, good you will say.

On the other side it's always said that circumcision leads to lower sexual pleasure as a result of desensitizing that part of the man.

However, you might want to click through to see that this argument is wrong. Such desensitization almost certainly leads to an increase in sexual pleasure.

Jennie and the Billies

Here's a good blog post about Jennie Finch and her appearance at the Billies:

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I had the privilege of attending the Billies with my daughter Abby. The Billies are an awards event named after Billie Jean King recognizing the positive portrayal of women in sports. The highlight was Abby acting as SunValleyOnline’s cub reporter and interviewing an array of sports figures ranging from Billie Jean King herself to Jimmy Connors to Jennie Finch. The athletes were incredibly nice to her asking her as many questions as she was asking them.

A private concert by Elton John afterwards as well? Pretty cool.

Hilary Duff Breakup

Hilary Duff's new album was recorded and written against the background of her breakup:

NEW YORK (Billboard) - As multimedia momentum goes, no one need teach 19-year-old Hilary Duff a thing.

For the past decade, she has built a career that began on TV, peaking in 2001 with her title role in Disney's 65-episode "Lizzie McGuire," making her a name brand among tweens.

Two years later, she recorded a full-length studio album, "Metamorphosis," which hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and the single "Come Clean" reached the Hot 100's top 40. The project sold 3.7 million copies -- and an MTV star was born.

With her upcoming album "Dignity," due April 3 via Disney's Hollywood Records label, Duff is coming out with the majesty of a high-class debutante. Duff co-wrote all songs on the album with A-lister Kara DioGuardi (Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera), including the uptempo single "With Love." She is also promoting her new Elizabeth Arden fragrance, With Love, in addition to a clothing line, Stuff by Hilary Duff, available at mass-market retailers Wal-Mart, Kohls and Target.

"I know how lucky I am, but I've worked hard," Duff says. "Who could complain? I've traveled the world multiple times with so many rewards."

For the new album, Duff insisted on being more involved. "I knew I couldn't do it myself, but working with Kara allowed me to talk about things on my mind. It was one big therapy session." During the songwriting process, Duff endured the full scope of a relationship -- true love, doubt, breakup and resolution -- all of which play out during the course of the set's 14 tracks. (The other party was Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden, who is now dating Nicole Richie.)

"True love" at 19 years old is a bit strong isn't it? Teenage infatuation you mean?

Chuck Berry DVD

I well remember this Chuck Berry concert film when it first came out.

Director Taylor Hackford's "Chuck Berry: Hail! Hail! Rock 'n' Roll," a documentary about the rock pioneer's 60th birthday concert in 1986, won top honors at the third annual Music DVD Awards Tuesday.

The film was named best of show, beating more than 100 contenders in Home Media Magazine's contest at the Wyndham Bel Age Hotel in West Hollywood.

"Hail! Hail!" also won for best vintage concert and best special features/bonus materials. It was released last June by Image Entertainment in two-disc and four-disc configurations.

Judges praised the 1987 film for capturing Berry's fire and passion onstage, as well as the irascible veteran's outrageous exploits before, during and after the concert at the Fox Theater in St Louis, Mo., organized by Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, Berry's long-suffering protege.

I must have a look around on Amazon for it. It's bloody good, as they say over here.

Jimmy Carter Wins a Grammy?

Weird, weird, that Jimmy Carter should win a Grammy:

Jimmy Carter became the second former U.S. president to win a Grammy Award when he was honored in the spoken-word category on Sunday for the audio-book version of his bestseller "Our Endangered Values: America's Moral Crisis."

Carter, 82, shared the award in a rare tie with actress Ruby Dee and her late husband Ossie Davis for "With Ossie and Ruby: In This Life Together."

Davis, a prominent actor and civil rights activist died of natural causes in 2005, aged 87.

Carter was not present at the music industry's biggest event, which was held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Former President Bill Clinton won spoken-word Grammys in 2004 and 2005, as did his wife, U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, in 1997 while she was still first lady.

Mrs. Clinton's rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, won a Grammy last year for the audio-book version of his book "Dreams From My Father."

What, the Grammy goes to the person who wrote the book, not to the people who record the spoken book version? Weird.

Kate Moss and Pete Doherty

Looks like Kate Moss has dumped Pete Doherty yet again:

Kate Moss and Pete Doherty have a fairytale romance going, or at least they would if there was a fairytale called The Dirty-Looking Bell-End, The Skinny Princess And The Pile Of Drugs Bigger Than A Double Decker Bus - which we're not entirely sure that there is.

Anyway, the news here is that Kate Moss has probably dumped Pete Doherty over his continued drug problem after pictures of him apparently shooting up cocaine were published in several newspapers. Now, the world's most famous supermodel splitting up with her long-term partner over something as illegal and dangerous as a drug addiction would undoubtedly be huge news, if not for the fact that Kate Moss and Pete Doherty appear to be contractually obliged to break up with one another at least once every 15 milliseconds.

The saga of Kate Moss and Pete Doherty is so long and knotty that we can barely bring ourselves to think about it, let alone write about it. But today is different because a) it was either this or an article about Janet Street-Porter pretending to be a nurse and b) Kate Moss and Pete Doherty have totally split up forever, and it's all because - shock horror - Pete Doherty took some drugs.

Splitting up because Pete Doherty took some drudgs has to be the most stupid reason possible. I thought that's what he did, the reason for his existence?

Tara Conner

Tara Conner has announced thather alcoholism and drug addiction were a result of her childhood abuse:

Fallen beauty queen, Miss USA Tara Conner, said she had witnessed abuse as a child and that may have driven her into a life of alcohol and drugs -- but she still believed she could be a good role model.

Conner, 21, came close to losing her crown last month because of her wild behavior but was given a second chance by real estate tycoon and reality TV star, Donald Trump, owner of the Miss USA contest, after she agreed to enter a rehabilitation program.

In her first interview since emerging from a month in rehab, Conner said she had come to terms with the fact that she was an alcoholic, willingly admitted she had taken cocaine, and described her past behavior as dishonest and manipulative.

But she said she had faced her "demons" and hinted her problems may have stemmed from some unspecified abuse during her childhood with someone she recently confronted. She would not comment on whether this abuse was sexual.

Has it really come to this? That liking an drink and a toot (in the past, considered quite normal behaviour for beautiful young women making a fortune) is a crime which must be blamed on something?

Beyonce: Most Gorgeous

Beyonce Knbowles has been voted the top fantasy girlfriend this year:

Singer-actress Beyonce, star of the movie musical "Dreamgirls," was named this year's "most desirable woman" in an annual reader survey released on Wednesday by the popular lifestyles Web site AskMen.com.

The entertainer, sometimes credited by her full name, Beyonce Knowles, jumped from No. 50 last year to the top of AskMen's list of "fantasy girlfriends" in 2007, as ranked by its readers -- a majority of whom are men aged 18 to 34.

Beyonce, who burst on the recording scene as a member of the chart-topping R&B group Destiny's Child, earned a Golden Globe nomination for her role as the Diana Ross-like character in "Dreamgirls," a big-screen adaptation of the Broadway hit musical. The movie is nominated for eight Oscars.

Screen star Scarlett Johansson is this year's AskMen runner-up, followed by the top pick from 2006, Jessica Alba, who slips two places to No. 3.

Apoologies if I differ: until there's a redhead in there to vote for I ain't voting.
